Hi there folks. I hope that everyone is doing well. First and foremost, I wanted to thank everyone for their advice and suggestions regarding pencils in my last journal. It was a huge help to me. I picked up many pencils including Staedlers, Faber Castells, and Derwents. It's fascinating how different all of the quality pencils are. Anyway, to be perfectly blunt, drawing in pencils is like learning to ride a bicycle for the first time for me because I have not used pencils on a consistent basis in ages. I'm still trying to get the feel for pencils. Unlike pen, I have the ability to correct mistakes in the portraits I am drawing so I am lot a more obsessive about form and detailing. I am also slightly favoring the darker grays over the purer blacks for some reason. At some point this month, I do plan on submitting one of my portraits. Again, I am kind of rusty right now with regards to pencils, but I am sincerely trying. Does this mean I am abandoning pens? Absolutely not. I still love pens, but I think I'll be using pencils for portraits and realistic subject matter from now on.
